Mind Over Machines Makes Minority Investment in New SDVOSB with Focus on Information Assurance for Federal Intelligence and Civilian Agencies
Laurel, Md - September 9, 2008 - Jim Gerretson, an internationally recognized expert in information assurance (IA), and Tom Loveland, CEO of Mind Over Machines and one of the driving forces in repealing Maryland’s computer services tax, today announced that they have partnered to form Gerretson LLC. A service-disabled, veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB), the company leverages Gerretson’s more than 25 years of industry experience, combined with Mind Over Machines’ infrastructure and team, to deliver information assurance, software development and network operations services to the federal intelligence community and civilian agencies.
“Better information security is desperately needed, but is often difficult to attain because, unless done correctly, users will see it as interfering with the ability to complete tasks efficiently and effectively and try to bypass it,” said Gerretson. “Gerretson LLC has a unique understanding of how information assurance can be integrated with standard business practices and a client’s business needs for a better user experience. And it is that knowledge that allows us to strike the right balance, enabling users to do their jobs effectively and in a secure manner.”
Gerretson, who will serve as the company’s CEO, is well regarded in the intelligence community as an expert on cyber security and has built successful practices at several defense contractors. Prior to starting Gerretson LLC, he served as a director of Perot Systems, where he helped develop new business for the company and served as an IA expert. He also has served as a director of information assurance at Lockheed Martin/ACS, where he built an information assurance practice from one person to over 200. Gerretson also built a strong IA practice while at CSC. Gerretson started his IA/IT career in the U.S. Navy in 1975.
Loveland, while continuing to run Mind Over Machines, will serve as Gerretson LLC’s president, bringing more than two decades of application development and business experience to the new company. Mind Over Machines holds a minority stake in Gerretson LLC and will partner with Gerretson on select projects.
“Jim and I share the philosophy that technology, processes and people are equally important when designing secure business solutions,” said Loveland. “By combining Jim’s expertise in information assurance with Mind Over Machine’s focus on application development with the user experience in mind, we have an opportunity to help our clients develop usable solutions that offer a high level of security.”
Gerretson LLC will provide a full life-cycle approach to its IT services, offering current system support and long-range strategic planning. Among the services the company will offer are:
Information Assurance – security needs analysis, architecture, design and implementation; security audits and C&A; and incident response and evaluation.
Software Development – application architecture, user design experience and application development and integration.
Network Operations – network operations support and network analysis.
The company initially will focus on clients in the federal intelligence community and civilian agencies.
